Three years ago I stumbled upon an account on Instagram that continually talked about “making good goals” and how “little by little progress adds up.” I’ve always loved the idea of goals (my ADHD brain needs structure, y’all!), but have never been really good at sticking with and actually achieving them. Needless to say, I was intrigued by everything the Cultivate What Matters team stood for, so in January 2015 I bought my first set of PowerSheets.
Even though I didn’t start using my set until May, I still made progress on things that were important to me (health, relationships, creativity, etc…). In 2016, I started my Powersheets in the beginning of the year and launched a website, started blogging, lost weight, invested in relationships, & took better care of our home. In 2017, due to some unforeseen circumstances, I decided to keep my goals simple, but I’ve still taken charge of my health (both mental & physical), invested in both my marriage and other relationships, and grown in my faith.
How did Powersheets help me to accomplish these things you ask? Well, for starters, there is research to support the fact that you are more likely to achieve a goal if it’s written down and broken into specific steps. See here, here, and here. That’s just the starting point though. This intentional goal planner helps you pinpoint what things are most important to you by asking simple questions that dig deep (like, “Where do you want to be when you’re eighty?”). After you have your yearly goals set, each month has a break down page for you to write out monthly, weekly, and daily goals (with boxes to check and progress bars to monitor where you are each month). There is also a page each month that helps you to reflect on gratitude, lessons learned, memories made, and areas to give yourself grace. Each season (every 3 months) there is also a “refresh” section that allows you to reflect on what areas of your life you want to invest more in, and how or if you want to change any of your goals.
I don’t just love Powersheets though; I love the heart and soul behind the company, Cultivate What Matters. I love the intentional changes they’ve made to the Powersheets workbook each year to make it more streamlined. Here are some of my favorite pages in the 2018 edition…
